The folding screen on display in the lobby is titled "Four Seasons Flower and Bird Folding Screen" and, as its name suggests, is decorated with birds and flowers of each season.

It was written by Ueno Tokei, a writer from Mibu Town who was active mainly from the Meiji to Taisho periods.
Ueno, who also produced supplies for the Imperial Household, is also known in Nikko as one of the founders of "Nikko Tsuishu" porcelain.
In this piece, the flowers and birds are carved in relief, creating a simple yet elegant screen.
The depiction of the water surface is also captivating.
In fact, this screen, whose creator remains unknown, had long played a behind-the-scenes role as a screen equipment, but a few years ago it was rediscovered during a research study group for young Nikko carving artists, and was identified as the work of Ueno Tokei. It is currently on display at the back of the lobby on the first floor. Please be sure to take a look when you are out and about.
